Will Wonders Ever Cease: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton

Clinton will become the third woman to serve as Secretary of State. Earlier, I said that if she became SOS in the Obama administration that my level of cynicism would max out. I guess I will need to raise the limit because all media outlets now report that Obama and Clinton have basically reached a deal.

But, are you really suprised by this choice? I mean, people were talking about this months ago. Or are you saying you were hoping he would do something different, and then, he didn't? I personally think this was brokered months ago in exchange for her stumping for him.

Me -- surprised? I'm fairly sarcastic and cynical. I would not say that I am surprised. I guess I'm more surprised that no one is discussing the irony of her having the position. Only recently have people finally begun discussing what that means for Obama's foreign policy versus his campaign narrative.

Basically, this is just my way of trying to "humanize" Obama -- to help understand him as a politician rather than a mythical figure. Thinking of him in fictional terms is dangerous for social change. Every time I hear a reference to Lincoln, FDR, Kennedy or King, I become worried. Why? Because history has a way of magnifying people. That's great after the fact, but this type of projection can block constructive analysis!

PS: I agree that some deal was brokered to have her campaign for him and keep the PUMAs in the party. Also - do you really sing like Sassy????

Not yet, but I'm working on it...

But yes, so far his picks do have a "wayback machine" look don't they? But, who has the experience to do these jobs who have not been on the Washington scene? I appreciate you asking questions though and trying to mesh the rhetoric with the reality.
